MEC Community Services

MEC Ministries is an inter-denominational ministry under leadership of Marinda E Cornelius.

Our Vision
To, according to Isaiah 61, spread the good news of the Gospel to those in need, and to help our disadvantaged communities and break the bondage of poverty.

Our Mission
To share and live the Love of Jesus to one another. To not only be hearers of the Word , but doers of the Word. We are a totally “sold-out” Word of Faith Ministry, and submit directly to Kenneth Copeland Ministries.

We focus on the upliftment of the communities of the Western Cape in South Africa as well as the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Africa. We work with all churches and ministries, by presenting our Camps and Word Schools, especially those who do not have the facilities, staff or resources to offer these services to their congregation. We are not a church, and there are no plans to start a church of our own. When we have people at our camps that come to the Lord, we can refer them to the churches that we know and with whom we work. We are interested in reaching the lost and not shifting believers. We are also called to promote unity in the body of Christ.

The need/project for Mandela day 2018 - we would love to be able to replace all the children’s mattresses, our toddler beds are being replaced by standard sized bunk beds. Furthermore the bedding for the children needs to be replaced, even the duvet inners and pillows - as the ones the are currently using is paper thin already. It is a big undertaking - replacing 18 mattresses, duvet inners, pillows, sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases. However it can be done. If everyone of the members on this page contributed R67 or multiples thereof, we could easily meet or target and hopefully even raise enough to fully catch up on our Eskom account.

Please remember ALL monetary donations are eligible for a tax rebate as per section 18a of the income tax law.

Contributions can be paid to MEC Community Services

Our Ministries

Counselling / Marriage Counselling

Counselling
We also provide a free counselling service. One on one, ladies, teenagers and children. Our counselling is done from the perspective that the Word of God has all the answers to life’s challenges. Our counselling is therefore Word-based and renewing of the mind with the Word plays a big part in it. Looking at the success rate we have, we can establish that the Word really changes people’s thoughts and behavior and thus situations.

Small Groups

A small group of believers from various denominations gather every Tuesday evening at the house of Marinda Cornelius. For the past 20+ years this has been happening and various people have passed through at different seasons of their lives.

We worship, have a short teaching and then we fellowship. Many have met the Lord and been baptized and have grown in their relationship with Abba. Many have moved on into their own ministries from here as we encourage our people to hear from God for themselves and to be sensitive to the leading of Holy Spirit for their lives.

We also pray together and have noticed that our prayers have a high success rate and all the glory be to God! Scripture says that the prayer of a righteous man will be heard and that it carries power to bring to pass. Well, all attending are God’s righteousness in Christ Jesus and know it and therefore we have the confirmation that our prayers are answered.

We also have a children’s ministry in place on a Tuesday evening. Our children are introduced to the Supernatural at a young age and encouraged to have God encounters. Our children are taught to worship, to pray, to prophesy and just to have fun as well.

Should you live in the Tygerberg region of the Cape Peninsula and you do not belong to a small group and you want to join us, please feel free to contact Marinda on 0824537758.
All are welcome! The only criteria being that you are willing to submit to the Word of God!

Youth Ministry

Our approach to the youth and their challenges is based on John 10:10 “the thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life and have it in abundance” (to the full, till it overflows)

From that perspective, every possible situation in a teen’s life is measured up against this Scripture and then categorised as either ‘steal, kill and destroy’ or ‘life in abundance’. Take education for example – although it feels like steal, kill and destroy, it is in actual fact life in abundance. These youngsters are actively involved in the debate and they are the ones coming to the conclusion. As a result it is slotted under the heading ‘life in abundance’.

The next ‘issue’ is then tackled. That way tipical topics are debated and categorised. There is always a question and answer time and the idea is to prove to the young people that the Bible is truly the Word of God and so inspired by Holy Spirit that it is as relevant today as when it was written. We prove to them that there is no question regarding life that cannot be answered from the Bible based on 2 Timothy 3:16 – Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, and for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action).

H.U.G.S (He Understands Girl Stuff)

A Christian ministry to the heart of all women.

The message is clear, God uniquely created women and He understands us! Birthed at The Harvest in Lexington, SC on February 14, 2008, HUGS meets the 2nd Saturday of each month at 10:00AM for a time of worship, relevant teaching, and fun fellowship. It is a great place to get connected with other women, find healing for any brokenness in your life, and grow together as holy devoted passionate followers of Jesus Christ.

We launched HUGS South Africa on the 12th of June 2010 and envision every church and congregation getting involved, to form a network of believers across denominational and cultural borders. Supporting one another and empowering women to make a difference in not only their own lives, but also the lives of others and their broader community. Thus changing South Africa for GOOD!

H.U.G.S is growing!!!! We launched HUGS East London in October 2012 and HUGS Phillipi on 23 February 2013. We are so excited – looking forward to the launch of HUGS in Delft and Wallacedene soon!

Should you be interested in a HUGS in your area – PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT US! – This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Our Community Services

HIS Hands Care Center

His Hands Care Centre opened its doors as a Non-Profit Organization on 5 January 2015, by a family with a passion to make a difference and a handful of parents with a very good cause. The mission was to provide a safe and loving environment for children with disabilities, a place where they would receive dedicated care from a team of hard working staff members, so Mum and Dad could return to work with peace of mind, knowing their special child was in the right hands

Built on these foundations, this Christian organization is growing from strength to strength. His Hands Care Centre has the facilities to support up to 21 children aged from birth to 16 years old, and specializes in caring for those with severe physical and profound cognitive disabilities. The team of staff is continuously developing their skills and experience as care workers, who undertake constant training and whose knowledge in the field is unparalleled. Still a place of love and safety, every child may now receive therapies - both medical and psychological care from within the centre.

His Hands Care Centre acquired the skills and expertise of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational and Physiotherapists from in and around East London to enable us to develop individualized programs for each child. Our staff members have also been trained in providing much needed therapies on a daily basis for our children. The staff currently consists of 7 care workers, who are responsible for managing the children’s everyday day-to-day needs, including feeding, nappy changes, general stimulation, as well as the implementation of special individualized therapy programs. These special women have a special heart for our kiddies and are learning new skills and teaching all of us new skills on a daily basis. Martinette du Randt manages the centre hands-on and uses her expertise of over 14 years as a Behavioral Tutor to assist in offering these kids and their families, as well as the staff, the skills they need to enable the children to develop to their full potential.

Our special menu was planned with the help of a dietician, and every day includes an energy packed breakfast, a high protein lunch and an assortment of healthy snacks and fun treats. Unlike a mainstream school or day care where there is one program that all the children follow, every child that attends His Hands Care Centre is individually assessed, has a personalized care plan, and receives a unique program designed to meet every need of that specific child. Emphasis is placed on developing independence, promoting self-confidence and working towards long term goals and planning for the future.

No two children’s needs are the same. Every child (whether or not they have disability) is worthy of love and support, and has the right to be treated with dignity and compassion. There are currently sixteen children attending His Hands Care Centre and many of these have Cerebral Palsy or other conditions affecting mobility. Many of these children can’t walk and is almost completely unable to move independently. Besides not being able to play or investigate the world for themselves, they rely on their care workers to feed, change, clean and move them. Either due to their physical disability or their mental capacity, many of the children are unable to use meaningful speech, so the staff need to be highly proficient in alternative forms of communication, such as tracking eye movements or tiny changes in body language, listening carefully to the limited sounds a child is able to make, or evaluating mood and monitoring their behaviors.

The challenges these children face every single day are too many and too diverse to explain in mere words or fully appreciate, but there is truly no challenge too great. There is always a way, and the staff of His Hands Care Centre will do everything they can, investing every ounce of energy, patience, knowledge and faith into meeting the needs of every child. His Hands Care Centre does not focus on typical preconceptions of progress. The goal is to improve the child’s quality of life, finding practical solutions to help both the child and their family work with and develop their individual abilities to the full.

By no stretch of the imagination is this easy work, nor is it cheap. The school fees are aligned as closely as possible to current rates of the Disability Grant. Subsidies are currently being applied for from the Department of Social Development and we are planning quite a few very important fund-raisers (Beach fun-run, flea market, golf day and Music show to name but a few) to aid us with much-needed finances to run this safe-place for our kiddies. This combined with the constant trickle of donations and pledges from small businesses and charitable givers, will keep His Hands Care Centre’s doors open. Continued fundraising and spreading awareness will ensure that these children always have a place where they can reach their full potential.

We are proud to say that one of our board members is Luanet Smit, Speech Therapist and Audiologist, who was Business Woman of the Year 2014 – Professional category. We endure to utilize her knowledge in our therapy programs and every day running!

Marriage Official

Marinda E Cornelius is also a registered marriage official for MEC-Ministries. Pre-marital counseling is a must for any couple.
